Biography

Dr. Kaushik Khamrui is a Senior Scientist at Dairy Technology Division, National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), Karnal. Present research focus of Dr. Khamrui includes traditional Indian dairy products (optimising process technology for commercial production), conducting basic research for the development of new food products (low fat, low sugar high fibre foods, whey beverages, concentrated and dried whey-based fruit juice mixes and functional products), texture analysis of foods (manipulation of textural qualities through formulation and processing variables), etc. He has guided seven post-graduate students for their dissertation work. Dr. Kaushik had received German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) fellowship to carry out part of the research work at Federal Research Centre for Nutrition, Karlsruhe, Germany and recipient of Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s (ICAR) Junior and Senior Research Fellowships. He has published 15 research papers in reputed journals, more than 40 popular/technical articles and contributed six chapters in books. Prior to NDRI, Dr. Kaushik has worked at National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand.

Dr. Vivek Sharma is a Principal Scientist in the Dairy Chemistry . Department of National Dairy Research Institute at Krnal He received his Ph.D. Degree in Dairy Chemistry from National Dairy Research Institute, karnal in 1996 He is having 17. Years of Experience in the field of Dairy Chemistry. His Area of Expertise includes: Milk Lipids & Quality Assurance He is the author of Practical manuals & e- course, recipient of Erassmus Mundus Fellowship of European Union as Visiting professor at Katholieke Hogeschool, Gent Belgium and Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland. etc.

Dr. Chander Datt is a Senior Scientist in the Department of Dairy Cattle Nutrition at National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed University), Karnal-132001, Haryana. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Animal Nutrition from National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed University), Karnal in 1998. Then he served as Scientist and Senior Scientist for 10 years at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra, Tripura. He has been serving as Senior Scientist since 2009 at NDRI, Karnal. He is having 15 years of experience in the field of animal nutrition research. He has handled 15 research projects as Principal Investigator or CO-PI. His area of expertise includes: nutritional evaluation of feed resources, mineral nutrition, precision nutrition, feeding strategies under climate change scenario. He is actively involved in research, teaching and extension activities. He is life member of Professional Societies like Animal Nutrition Society of India, Indian Dairy Association, Animal Nutrition Association, Indian Poultry Science Association, Swine Production Society of India, Indian National Science Academy and Indian Buffalo Development Society. He has published 45 research papers in national/international journals, 65 research abstract papers, 15 book chapters/lead papers, 12 books/manuals/technical bulletins and 5 booklets/scientific folders. He is recipient of ASPEE Gold Medal, Jawahar Lal Nehru Award-1999 (for Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Animal Nutrition by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi) and Dr. K. Pradhan Young Scientist Award (Animal Nutrition Society of India) besides several paper/poster awards. His biography appeared in “Marqui’s Who’s Who-2007” (USA) and “International Biographical Centre-2008” (UK).

Dr. Subrota Hati is an Assistant Professor in the Dairy Microbiology Department of SMC College of Dairy Science at the University of Anand Agricultural University. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Dairy Microbiology from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal in 2012 .Then worked as a Assistant Professor in Anand Agricultural University from 2012. He is having 03 Years of Experience in the field of Dairy Science and Dairy/Food Microbiology His Area of Expertise includes: Dairy Technology, Food Technology, Food/Dairy Microbiology, Applied Dairy Microbiology He is the author of 20 research papers, 25 review and technical papers, 18 Book Chapters and recipients of Prof SK Dey Gold Medal, Urmilabala Memorial Award, three Young Scientist Award, two Best paper awards, five Best poster Awards and also awarded DST Young Scientist Project etc.

Dr. H. G. Ramachandra Rao, is a Professor and Head in the Dairy Technology, Department of Dairy Technology.at the University of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, Karnataka. She/he received his/her Ph.D. Degree in Food Science & Technology from Reading University, England in 1994. Then worked as a Professor in University of Agricultural Sciences for 11 years and in Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences Institute/University for 9 Years. He is having total of 35Years of Experience in the field of …Dairy/ Food Technology. Her/his Area of Expertise includes: value Addition to milk products, sensory evaluation, Membrane Processing of Dairy/food products and by-products utilization He is the author of about 40 research papers, popular articles, conference proceedings, besides one book (chapter). He is a recipient of one state level award as best teacher, recipient of 3 international scholarships.

Dr. Senthil Kumar, R.is a Scientist (Sr.scale) in the Division of Dairy Extension the University of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) He received his Ph.D. Degree in 2008 from NDRI University in 2008.After that he worked as a Scientist in Institute/University for 5 Years. He is having 5 Years of Experience in the field of social sciences incl. Agricultural (Dairy/Veterinary) Extension Education. He is the author of 2 teaching manuals, 16 reputed research articles, 1 International society award, etc.

Dr. Suneeta Valentine Working as Associate Professor in Dairy Technology Department, Sheth M.C. College of Dairy Science, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Completed B.Sc.(Dairy Technology) in 1985, M.Sc (Dairying) in 1995 with Dairy Technology as major subject and Ph.D in Dairy Technology in 2006. Has published 4 review articles, 26 research papers, 26 technical articles and 29 posters/ abstracts in national and international seminars. Teaching undergraduate B.Tech.(Dairy Technology) and post graduate (M.Tech. Dairying) students for more than 25 years. Associated with several research projects related to dairy products particularly ice cream and traditional Indian dairy products. Worked as external examiner for B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) semester end examination for several universities. Actively involved in short term training courses conducted by the faculty of Dairy Science, AAU for dairy personnel. Prepared lectures for E-course in the subject of “Ice cream and frozen desserts” for B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) students under NAIP Component-I project (1.11.2011) programme on Development of E.course for B.Tech. (Dairy Technology). Developed technology for manufacture of Dietetic frozen dessert and ginger ice cream which was subsequently transferred to Patna Dairy.

Dr. Surajit Mandal is a Scientist in the Dairy Microbiology Division at the National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Dairy Microbiology from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana in 2006. Then he worked as a Scientist in National Dairy Research Institute for 7 years. He is having 8 years of Experience in the field of Dairy Microbiology. Her area of Expertise includes: technology of dairy starter cultures, probiotics, fermented dairy products. She/he is the author of several Laboratory Manuals related to Microbiology, Dairy Microbiology, Book chapters, research, review and popular articles, recipient of best papers and poster awards etc.

Dr. Rekha Chawla is a Assistant Professor in the College of Dairy Science and Technology Department of Dairy Technology at the University of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) She/he received his/her Ph.D.Degree in Dairy Technology from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal in 2010. Then working as a Astt. Prof. in GADVASU Institute/University for 4 Years. He/she is having 4 Years of Experience in the field of Food and Dairy Technology Her/his Area of Expertise includes: Functional Dairy products, composite foods, traditional indian dairy products. etc. She/he is the author of 4 Research papers, 4 review articles and recipient of Gold medal in B.Sc and M.sc Programme.

Dr. Anil K. Puniya is Dean, College of Dairy Science and Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. He received his Ph.D. in Dairy Microbiology from ICAR-NDRI, Karnal, in 1994 (over the course of which he was also awarded prestigious DAAD Fellowship of Germany). He is having 22 years of research and teaching experience. His areas of expertise include dairy and rumen microbiology with special reference to probiotics and direct-fed microbials. He edited “Fermented Milk and Dairy Products”, CRC Press; and “Rumen Microbiology”, Springer. He published internationally over 130 research papers, reviews, and book chapters. He has visited Aberystwyth University, UK, in 2007 & 2013. He has also visited Taiwan in 2010 during an exposure visit of DST. He also chaired scientific sessions in Portugal and Thailand, and presented paper in Spain. He is recipient of Young Scientist Award, 1996 of AMI; Kautilya Gold Medal, 1999; Best Young Scientist Award, 2004; K.K. Iya Award, 2006; Honorable Mention, 2010 of American Society for Microbiology; and Certificate of Appreciation of ABRCMS, USA; aside from few best paper/ poster awards. He is also the fellow of Animal Nutrition Society of India and National Academy of Dairy Science (India).

Dr. P. Narender Raju is a Scientist (Sr. Scale) in the discipline of Food Science and Technology at Dairy Technology Division of ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal (Haryana). He received his Ph.D. Degree in Dairy Technology from ICAR-NDRI, Karnal during 2009. He has a total experience of more than 9 years in teaching and research. His primary area of research expertise is development and packaging of health foods which includes high protein bakery and confectionery products; development of low-calorie and sugar-free indigenous dairy products; shelf life evaluation of composite dairy foods; modified atmosphere packaging of dairy foods; packaging of probiotic dairy foods; application of edible films and coatings for Indian dairy products; and development of intelligent packaging systems. He is the principal investigator for 2 R&D projects, 1 consultancy project and co-principal investigator for several R&D projects. Dr. Raju has guided 5 M.Tech., 3 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D. students of NDRI, Karnal and other Universities. He is the author of 12 research papers, 6 book chapters, 3 review papers, 15 popular articles, 13 conference proceedings and 42 technical articles in lecture compendia. He also authored 2 practical manuals for UG and PG courses in the area of dairy and food packaging. He is a recipient of Senior Research Fellowship for doctoral research, Young Scientist award from Dairy Technology Society of India, Karnal and one Best Poster Award each from AFST(I), Mysore and 16th ICFOST and at 3rd ISPI from IIP, Mumbai.

Dr. Anupam Chatterjee is a Principal Scientist in the Discipline of Animal Nutrition at National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed University), Eastern Regional Station, Kalyani-741235, West Bengal. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Animal Nutrition from National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed University), Karnal in 1998. Then he served as Scientist for 6 years at NRC on Yak (ICAR), Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh. He has been serving as Scientist(Senior Scale) / Senior Scientist since 2004 at NDRI, Kalyani. He has been promoted to Principal Scientist from the year 2013. He is having more than 20 years of experience in the field of animal nutrition research. He has handled around 25 research projects as Principal Investigator or CO-PI. His area of expertise includes: feed resources, mineral nutrition, Ruminant nutrition, Yak nutrition, Non Conventional feeds etc. He is actively involved in research, teaching and extension activities. He is acting as In Charge, Academic Cell at ICAR-NDRI, ERS since 2014. He is life member of Professional Societies like Animal Nutrition Society of India, Animal Nutrition Association, Indian Society of Animal Production & Management etc. He has published 65 research papers in national/international journals, 15 popular articles, 60 research abstract papers, 15 book chapters/lead papers, 8 books/manuals/technical bulletins and 10 booklets/scientific folders. He is recipient of Dr. Sundaresan Award (for Outstanding Contribution in the Field of Animal Science by Alumni Association, Research, New Delhi), Best Research Paper Award by Indian Dairy Association besides several paper/poster awards.

Dr. Ajoy Mandal is a Principal Scientist/Professor in the Animal Genetics & Breeding , Department of Animal Breeding at the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Eastern Regional Station, Kalyani -741235, Nadia, West Bengal. He received his Ph.D. Degree in Animal Genetics & Breeding from ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (Deemed University), Karnal, Hayana in 1998 and earned his postdoctoral from Intitut Nationale de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), Nouzilly, France in 2006. He started his professional career as Research Scientist at the Central Institute for Research on Goats, Makhdoom, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh from 1998. Then worked as a Senior Research Scientist at the Central Institute for Research on Goats, Makhdoom, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh for 4 Years. He is having 22 years of Experience in the field of Animal Genetics & Breeding. His Area of Expertise includes: use of theory and computer analysis of data for genetic evaluation of animal. Particular areas of interest include breeding and management systems of cattle and genetic improvement of production and reproduction traits. He has published more than 80 in peer-reviewed journals and is an author of 5 books. He is also recipient of INRA post doctoral fellowship, and scientific research paper awards etc.

Dr. Kamal Gandhi is a Scientist in the Department of Dairy Chemistry at the University of National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. He has received his Ph.D.degree in Dairy Chemistry from National Dairy Research Institute University in2014. He has working experience of one and half years in Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), Amul. His area of Expertise includes: Milk and Milk products adulteration, Functional foods and Milk lipids. He is the author of 20 reputed research, review and popular articles in journals and compendiums, recipient of best papers and poster awards.
